There are very few places I'm not curious about.
And time, alas, is a limited resource.

Those two truths pull in opposite directions, so I've made peace with a simple rule. Most places, I go once. I photograph them, I feel them, I let them live in me, and then I make room for somewhere new.

But, Japan…

Japan is where the rule falls apart. The longer you stay, the more it seems to open. Every return peels back another layer, another region, another meal that reorders your idea of what dinner can be. Tokyo alone shifts by neighborhood, by hour, by the angle of the light coming off the glass.

So Japan gets my exception. I'll go back. Sooner than later, I hope.
